A sequel to the iconic piece of all time, "Top Gun: Maverick"
Finally, a nostalgia that works.
my early 20s were spent exploring my mom's personal life. turns out that during 24 years of my life, her oldest doesn't really understand where my mom is coming from. but after watching Top Gun for the first time in 2022, finally, i could say that everything is in its place, and make total sense why she became who she is. I mean, growing up through puberty by witnessing Tom Cruise in his 20s playing pilot? One can only guess and it's up to you to interpret it in a good or bad way.
after 36 years, the original and legendary Top Gun finally has its sequel. It is set decades after the first one in 1986 following the death of Goose (played by Anthony Edwards), the best friend and partner of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (played by Tom Cruise). In the sequel, Maverick, in the present day works as a test pilot turned into a teacher/trainer after having been pressured by the committee that he will be losing his pilot's license. We knew at the end of the first movie, that Goose is dead and leaving behind his wife with one kid. In this one, the audience will meet the son of Goose, Bradley "Rooster" played by Miles Teller, pursuing the same path as his father, joining an elite aviation program that trained by, wait for it, Maverick.
the one thing memorable from the first movie is probably Goose's death and with the sequel, the writers of this movie try to bring some depth that the first film lacks. Shot with IMAX camera combined with the sound effect, Top Gun: Maverick really brings the audience piece of nostalgia that works and nails. The CGI, visual effects, and sounds really do enhance the experience of watching every aviation scene. Though some character depth might not work best (in the case of Rooster) and some do, in the case of Iceman, an old rival of Maverick played by Val Kilmer and my personal appreciation of having the credit shown in the beginning as if it's an old film, I just confused as this movie made it up to the Oscars week season for making it to the nomination lists of Best Picture category. And not winning. Got you covered.
